A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO HALLSTATT

Hallstatt is a small, tranquil village located in northern Austria. Surrounded by the majestic Alps, Hallstatt is positioned against the mountains and looks directly out onto Lake Hallstätter See. Many adjectives are used to describe this place, such as a fairy tale village, the most beautiful lakeside town in the world, and a legendary village… with its serene and poetic beauty that captivates any visitor who arrives here.

The population of Hallstatt is only about 1,000 people, but it is a heritage village. Through the ups and downs of history, Hallstatt has preserved its pristine and alluring beauty. Every detail of the village, from the narrow streets, gently sloping wooden houses on the mountainside, to the ancient churches and medieval castles, has a peculiar charm for visitors. For this reason, in 1997, UNESCO recognized Hallstatt as a World Heritage site and a popular destination attracting many tourists from around the globe.

Hallstatt was once the cradle of ancient cultures. In addition to the cultural concepts from the Stone Age, Iron Age, Bronze Age, etc. in Europe, there is also the concept of Hallstatt culture. Hallstatt is home to the oldest salt mines dating back over 7,000 years. Today, salt production is no longer the region’s strength, but it still contributes to the allure of this tourist destination in Austria.
